The Woman Who Outsmarted the Devil
A woman once said to the Devil, “Do you see that tailor over there? Do you think you can make him divorce his wife?”
The Devil smirked. “Of course. That will be easy!”
He went to the tailor and began whispering doubts into his ears, trying every trick he knew to turn him against his wife. But the tailor loved his wife deeply and refused to listen to the Devil’s whispers.
Eventually, the Devil returned, defeated.
The woman smiled and said, “Just wait. Watch what happens next.”
She went to the tailor and asked him for a beautiful piece of fabric. “My son wants to give it to his lover,” she explained, “who happens to be a married woman.”
The tailor handed her the fabric without suspecting anything.
Later, the woman visited the tailor’s house and knocked on the door. His wife welcomed her warmly.
“I was hoping to come in and have a cup of tea with you,” the woman said.
“Of course! Come in,” the wife replied.
While the tailor’s wife went into the kitchen to prepare the tea, the woman quietly slipped the piece of fabric behind the door, making sure her host didn’t notice.
Then she left.
When the tailor returned home, he spotted the fabric behind the door. He recognized it immediately and remembered what the woman had told him about her son’s married lover.
Without asking his wife a single question or giving her a chance to explain, he jumped to conclusions and divorced her on the spot.
The Devil was astonished.
“What a woman!” he exclaimed. “You women are impossible to understand!”
The woman smiled again.
“Wait. What if I told you I could make him take his wife back just as quickly?”
The Devil stared at her in disbelief. “How?”
The very next day, the woman returned to the tailor’s shop.
“I’d like another piece of fabric just like the one I bought yesterday,” she said. “I visited a poor woman to pray with her, and I accidentally left the fabric at her house. I was too embarrassed to go back and ask for it.”
The tailor immediately understood that he had made a terrible mistake. Without wasting another moment, he went home and took his wife back.
The Devil shook his head in disbelief.
“One little piece of fabric destroyed a marriage, and one simple explanation brought it back!”
The woman laughed.
“Sometimes, all it takes is a little suspicion to destroy trust—and a little truth to restore it.”
Moral of the Story: Never let suspicion replace communication. Before making a decision that could destroy your relationship, ask questions, seek the truth, and give the person you love a chance to explain.
